Universal, Lil Wayne’s record label, has pushed his album b

Universal, Lil Wayne’s record label, has pushed his album back from April 7th to May 9th and are said to be against the release of his rock album Rebirth.

The label is said to be worried about Wayne maybe losing credibility and segregating himself from his rap fans if he releases a rock album. So, trying to be polite to their No.1 artist, they’ve pushed it back hoping he’ll then decide not to release it. They’ve also supposedly told Cortez Byant, Wayne’s manager, that they will publicly stop it if Wayne still decides to go ahead with it.

So are they right or wrong to be doing this? Should artists not have the freedom to make music that they want to or should the labels be controlling what we hear?

On February the 8th RnB star Chris Brown turned himself into the LA

On February the 8th RnB star Chris Brown turned himself into the LAPD after charges of violence and abuse were brought towards him. What wasn’t made clear, however, was the victim.

Now, February 20th, the story has been released, the pictures have surfaced and we have a better understanding of what happened.

The above photo is of Robyn Rihanna Fenty, better known by her stage name, Rihanna. The photo shows numerous bruises to the face and forehead and was leaked (supposedly by a LA cop) for $62, 500.

As a result, of the photo surfacing, Rihanna’s side has been forced to release a press statement on the situation.

“At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown. She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time.”

So what happened then?

It looks as if the rumors were true: Rihanna was attacked by Chris Brown, pre-Grammy Awards.
On June 6, 2002, R.Kelly was indicted on 21 counts of having sexual intercourse with an underage girl. This was after a 27 minute sex tape was sent to a Chicago Sun-Times’s music critic in 2002. It appeared to display ‘what was thought’ to be R.Kelly having sexual intercourse with a minor. The minor was thought to have been his goddaughter. She denied these claims.

The verdict, not guilty, was decided after a 3 week court battle, if found guilty he would have been looking at 15 years in prison.

Shawn Corey Carter (born on December 4th, 1969) is an American rapper fr

Shawn Corey Carter (born on December 4th, 1969) is an American rapper from Marcy Projects, Brooklyn, New York. Shawn also is a partner in a string of clubs, called 4040, as well as owning a stake in the New Jersey Jets.

Jay-Z came to light in 1996 with his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, which spawned the creation of Roc-A-Fella Records. A joint venture between him, Dame Dash and Kareem Biggs. Reasonable Doubt peaked at No.23 in the Billboard chart.

After Reasonable Doubt Jay went on to release an album each year, every year, all of which were bigger, better and more commercially accepted than the last. In 1998 Hard Knock Life then shot him into the forefront of the music industry. He was Grammy Nominated as a result and it went gold in 1999.

The Blueprint

It was Shawn Carters sixth album though that was going to get him worldwide stardom. The Blueprint was released September 11th 2001, the same day the twin towers were attacked and the world would change forever. The album debuted at No.1, selling over 450,000 records in its first week. A first for rap and hip hop.

The Blueprint II, Gift and the Curse

Jay-Z’s next big album was then going to be his last. After releasing Blueprint 2, The Gift and the Curse, Jay now felt it was time to bow down gracefully and become CEO of Def Jam and hang up the mic. So in 2003 at the end of his US tour he announced that he was going to release The Black Album, his last.

The Black Album

The Black album featured production from Eminem, DJ Quik, Timbaland, Kaye West and The Neptunes all of which were also undoubtedly at the peak of the careers.

As predicted the album was a complete success gaining great reviews by critics. In its first week it sold 463,000 and entered in the chart at No.1. The album also brought two top ten singles for Jay, Dirt of Your Shoulder (produced by Timbaland) and Change Clothes (produced by The Neptunes).

The album was then released as an accappella bringing on even more success and making even more money for Jay. The album was famously remixed by Danger Mouse (one half of Gnarls Barkley) who placed the rappers vocals on The Beatles instrumentals. The album was labeled as The Grey Album.

His accappella version of The Black Album also resulted with artists including Cassidy, T.I, Joe Budden and The Clipse all releasing singles featuring samples from the Brooklyn rapper Jay-Z.

On November 25th 2003 Jay-Z hosted a ‘retirement party’concert at Madison Square Gardens, this was the basis for his DVD Fade to Black, which was a documentary based on his Black Album.

The Brooklyn rapper then went on to become president and CEO of Def Jam whilst selling his sharethe record label Roc-A-Fella Records, in which he was also president of.

Kingdom Come

2006 saw the return of Jay-Z with Kingdom Come. His return from retirement. The album dropped in November, one month after the lead single Show Me What You Got had leaked. This resulted in an FBI investigation into music piracy.

The album wasn’t successful for Shawn Carter though, shifting only 2 million in the US. Success however came in the form of Rihanna, with whom he had the hit Umbrella. Umbrella, originally wrote with Britney Spears in mind, went on to be the highest selling single of 2007.

In 2007 American Gangster was released, Jay’s tenth studio album. The album was created on the story behind the US Blockbuster American Gangster, featuring Denzel Washington.

2008 brought Jay-Z much success, after spending most of the summer touring Europe and the US he went in to recording The Blueprint III, set for release later this year. He also headlined Glastonbury Festival which went down a storm, even after Noel from Oasis claiming he’d be “bollocks”. Jay responded with the track Jockin Jay-Z.

Joaquin Phoenix, star of Johny Cash and Gladiator, is set to be releasing a Rap Documentary and album. As far fetched as this seems, it’s true. He has given up acting for pursuit of a rap career and who’s on his bandwagon?

Joaquin Phoenix, star of Johny Cash and Gladiator, is set to be releasing a Rap Documentary and album. As far fetched as this seems, it’s true. He has given up acting for pursuit of a rap career and who’s on his bandwagon? P.Diddy of course.

The actor decided, after his last film Two Lovers, that he wants to become a rapper and as a result performed live for the first time last month, in Las Vegas. As well as appearing on The David Letterman Show.

Although it’s a sudden change and a bit of a joke, good luck to the man. He does seem completely serious about it and he’s willing to loose a lot of credibility doing it. Which means a lot. This guy is willing to put his whole career and reputation on the line for something he must clearly love. For that reason I respect him.

On The David Letterman Show he was laughed and mocked by both the crowd and presenter, Joaquin simply said “this is not a joke. Might I be ridiculous? Might my career in music be laughable? Yeah, that’s possible, but that’s certainly not my intention”.

Every rapper needs a crew and homies however. So who is on his team? P “Bloody” Diddy. That’s right the swagger jacker of New York is back trying to grab other peoples spotlights by agreeing to produce the album.

Other collaborations and team ups for Joaquin include fellow actor Casey Affleck, Ben Afflecks brother, who’s stared in Good Will Hunting and Oceans Eleven. Casey will be directing a documentary on Joaquins pursuit of a rap career. Filming starting late 2008.

They live happily ever after…….I feel sick.

It seems like it happens though. Barbados born megastar Rihanna has supposedly forgiven Chris Brown for the damage he did to her. The couple spent last weekend together in Miami relaxing, just three weeks after Chris supposedly assaulted her.

The couple were seen spending time together at Sean “Diddy” Comb’s house, enjoying one another’s company. An unidentified source close to the couple said:

“While Chris is reflective and saddened about what happened, he is really happy to be with the woman he loves.”

You know what that means people? It means we wasted time caring about Rihanna. Myself, personally, felt sympathetic towards her after what Chris did, but now, not so. Not that I agree with abuse, it’s terrible, any man that hits a woman is weak. However, for the girl to then go back to the man and forgive him, well….. All I’m going to say is it’s her choice and she shouldn’t go thinking she has my pity if it happens again.

Case closed for this one people. They’re back together and happy. Great! He can be plastered all over the radio and TV again now. Good times.

Ohh yeah, I guess you’ve all heard the rumors that they also got married. Well, guess what, it’s lies. They’re not engaged, she’s not pregnant and they definitely aren’t married.

Just a little heads up and shout out to the UK Hip-Hop artists. It looks like Missy’s new album ‘Block Party’, set to be released at the end of year is going to have a little bit of that UK sound.

Currently the finishing touches are being made to the album, with producers such as Timbaland, Souldiggaz, Danjahandz, Pharrell, T-Pain and Pointguard all on board. In a recent interview she said “This album is probably more musical and melodic than my previous ones,” she then continued to say “A lot of my albums are really hip-hop-driven, with tinges of other music genres. But this album is hip-hop, with a sort of U.K. hip-hop sound to it.”

So it looks like Missy might be going back to what she does best. Making good club music. As per usual she will no doubt be going on about how good she is in the bedroom (sadly). Her first single is going to be “Best Best” which is going to be a hit. She’ll also be correcting the world with other songs such as “Hip-Hop Don’t Die”.

As far as we know, none of her new tracks are getting air play at the moment, it’s still early days for that, however with Timbaland and Elliot back together again I think this will definitely be one of the Hip-Hop albums of the year!

According to an LAPD source TMZ, the company that released the images into the public domain, might have helped Chris Brown get of the hook.

The photos, released last week, show a battered and bruised Rihanna. Whether or not he’s guilty, with the photos having been released, it means no jury are going to be considerate or impartial towards Mr Brown.

The judicial system in the US states that everyone is entitled to a free trial, the difficulty is though, the public has convicted Brown already. Therefore it could be argued that any court case would be unfair, unjust and a mockery to the system.

Information on this story is weak currently, but we’ll update you shortly on what effect this will actually have towards the case. So far it does look like it’ll, sadly, be benefiting Brown.
