DMC UK DJ Championships2008

On Thursday the 17th of July the Islington Acedemy, London will host this years final of the UK DMC DJ Competition and see the winners of the regional heats battle it out for the chance to represent the UK in the DMC World Final.

It’s to be held on 26th and 27th September at Indig02 aswell as a cheque for $10,000 from Ortofon the Golden Technics Turntables, previous winners of the UK crown include The Scratch Perverts, DJ Blakey and Plus One.

Protesters Gather forStiller’s New Film Tropic’s Thunder

The premier of Tropic’s Thunder was held this week in Mann Village Theatre, Los Angeles. The premier was surrounded by controversy and protesters however, protesting against the film which supposedly, humiliates people with intellectual disabilities.

The film which has appearances from the likes of Jack Black, Tom Cruise, Steve Coogan and Robert Dowley Jr is about a group of over the top actors filming a Vietnam war movie until their writer/director decideds to actually drop them into a real war zone.

Snoop Dogg Teams UpWithMassive Attack

Californian rapper, Snoop Dogg, has teamed up with UK trip hop producers Massive Attack for the lead single from the new documentary/film ‘In Prison My Whole Life’.

The track titled ‘Calling Mumia’ is featured on the soundtrack, whilst the film premiers this weekend (in the UK) the song itself is available for download now.

2008 B.E.T Award Nominations

The third annual B.E.T awards have been announced. The ceremony is due to air on the 23rd of October and is set to be bigger and better than ever before with hip-hop man of the moment, Lil Wayne, leading the way with nominations.

The show, hosted by comedian Katt Williams, has Lil Wayne leading the movement with 12 nominations including best artist, CD and ‘hustler’ whilst Kanye West comes in second with seven nominations. Other highly tipped artists for the night are T.I and Jay-Z who between them have 9 nominations.

For years the Western World has been ignoring/not receiving Asian music. It’s never made it big. This is now about to change, this change comes in the form of BoA (Best of Asia), a Korean artist taking the world by storm specializing in hip-hop and RnB.
Born in 1986, BoA Kwon (stage name BoA), has been training up on how to make it in the music industry. Having been releasing music since 2000 she has only just decided to grab the US’s attention and, wow, is she ready for it.
With better dance moves than Usher, Ne-Yo and Justin Timberlake put together this girls work ethic is inspiring. In Japan she has had six consecutive No.1 studio albums, quite honestly, she’s just someone we should all look up to if your at all interested in making it big in another country. I mean she’s fluent in English, Korean, Japanese to name but a few.
When it was decided for BoA to goto America her label, SM Entertainment, created an American subsidiary label to release her through. Her first English single, Eat You Up, was released in the US on the 22nd of October and was released a day earlier in the UK. It peaked in the US Billboard Charts at No.12, after little promotion, she also ranked at No.1 for the Billboard Hot Dance Club Party Chart. The single, Eat You Up, also got remixed by US Rapper Flo Rida in November 2008.

So people get ready it is BoA’s year and her first English Speaking album is soon to be released, titled “Look Who’s Talking” , she has moved to California and is living there currently whilst finishing the album. Ohh yeah …. I forgot to mention, she’s quite good looking as well!

2008 MOBO Award Results

The 13th annual Music Of Black Origin Awards were held last night (16th October) in London and boy what a night. Not only did Leona Lewis get booed by fans for failing to appear but the same happened to our UK Gem Dizzee Rascal who also didn’t show up.

The main winners on the night were clearly Dizzee Rascal and Estelle. Dizzee won the Best UK Male award whilst Estelle grabbed Best UK Female and Best Song for American Boy, taken from her album Shine.

Last.fm Snitches to the RIAA?

Last.fm, the UK based music community, is said to have handed over data to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of American) listing users with illegal pirated tracks.

The popular music website, owned by CBS, handed over a large amount of user data to the RIAA to go through and find out which users and members have illegal music on their computers.

T.I Announces US Tour Before Prison

Atlanta based rapper T.I has announced that he’ll be doing a tour of the US before he enters prison next month.

Grammy award winning producer and rapper Kanye West will be performing at the 2008 MTV VMA’s it’s been announced.

Creamfields 23rd & 24 August

This year sees Creamfields have its 10th Anniversary and it looks like they’ve organized one hell of a party with Fat Boy Slim and Kasabian headlining.
