Joaquin Phoenix Turns to Rapping
Joaquin Phoenix, star of Johny Cash and Gladiator, is set to be releasing a Rap Documentary and album. As far fetched as this seems, it’s true. He has given up acting for pursuit of a rap career and who’s on his bandwagon? P.Diddy of course.
The actor decided, after his last film Two Lovers, that he wants to become a rapper and as a result performed live for the first time last month, in Las Vegas. As well as appearing on The David Letterman Show.
Although it’s a sudden change and a bit of a joke, good luck to the man. He does seem completely serious about it and he’s willing to loose a lot of credibility doing it. Which means a lot. This guy is willing to put his whole career and reputation on the line for something he must clearly love. For that reason I respect him.
On The David Letterman Show he was laughed and mocked by both the crowd and presenter, Joaquin simply said “this is not a joke. Might I be ridiculous? Might my career in music be laughable? Yeah, that’s possible, but that’s certainly not my intention”.
Every rapper needs a crew and homies however. So who is on his team? P “Bloody” Diddy. That’s right the swagger jacker of New York is back trying to grab other peoples spotlights by agreeing to produce the album.
Other collaborations and team ups for Joaquin include fellow actor Casey Affleck, Ben Afflecks brother, who’s stared in Good Will Hunting and Oceans Eleven. Casey will be directing a documentary on Joaquins pursuit of a rap career. Filming starting late 2008.
